TEATIME is the most quintessential of British pursuits and an Ongar tearoom is in the running to be crowned as the best in the county.
Tilly's Tea Room is in the final of Essex Life magazine's Fine Food and Drink Awards.
The high street tearoom is up against two other competitors in the Tea Shop of the Year category.
Nominated by his customers, owner Carlos Ghosh is understandably pleased to be in the running for the award.
"It's great to be nominated, I'm really chuffed to be nominated by the customers," he said.
"I want to do our best, because it will be something for the people of Ongar to boast about as well, that they have got the best tea room in Essex.
"The accolade could help the High Street as well. It should bring extra people in, for us and for Ongar."
Judges will take into account taste of produce, cost, convenience and choices available when they visit in October.
"I'm happy just to be put in the top three," added Mr Ghosh.
"I'd like to thank our customers because they've made it possible for us to be nominated.
"With several tea rooms in Ongar all vying for custom, it is important to stand out.
"The service is a very big part of what we do, due to the fact there's a lot of repeat customers," explained Mr Ghosh.
"It's a friendly atmosphere here and everyone is part of the family, it's an extended family.
"You will always get a 'hello' here."
The tearoom, which opened at the end of January last year, sources as much of its food locally as possible and its pies and cakes are all homemade.
"I'm thankful to my customers and staff, they are a big part of this team and without them the tearoom would not happen," added Mr Ghosh.
